Offsets
Our attorneys are knowledgeable about offsets that may change the amount of child custody ordered by the court. Day care bills, healthcare expenses, and travel expenses incurred to visit the other parent can result in a corresponding increase or decrease in child support payments, depending on which parent is paying the bills. It is important to our clients that they have an attorney aware of all the offsets allowed by Colorado child support law.
Imputed Income
We advise parents regarding imputed income as it relates to child support. Imputed income is the income a parent should be able to earn, based on education and prior work experience. The concept was developed and enforced to prevent parents from becoming underemployed to avoid child support payments. Our child support attorneys at DeJong & Associates, LLC, are interested in the welfare of the children of their clients, and work to ensure they are receiving fair support.
Modifications
Child support orders are always modifiable by the court if the change in circumstances will result in at least a 10% change in the amount to be paid. Change could occur if incomes have changed, the parenting-time schedule has changed or allowed day care, health care, or or extraordinary expenses have changed. Our child support modification attorneys can file petitions for modification of orders and advise you on your situation.
